Canyonlands is farther out of Moab, but quieter and with nice hikes and views.
Arches National Park has more red rocks, many of them in very interesting formations, including … what? ARCHES.
I think Canyonlands within Moab might be a great choice for a future camping trip. The town of Moab boasts around 2 million visitors every summer, though I have never met anyone who has ever heard of it. There is one long main street with dining, shops, places to rent Jeep & dune buggies and river outfitters. The main activities include Jeep or dune buggying through the desert or river rafting. We did a river raft trip down the Colorado River. It was a 3 hour/ 11 mile trip with lunch and it’s considered Class 2 to Class 3 rapids- so you don’t have to wear a helmet. If you get tired of paddling in the raft, you can float down the river with your life vest. We had a great time, though our teenage boys would have enjoyed more rapids!!
