An Oxford Surprise

I wasn’t really expecting to see too many other Americans in England since it’s the off-season for tourists, but who should I literally bump into at our hotel lobby in Oxford? Hillary Clinton! It’s true! Apparently Hillary was in town to deliver a lecture at Oxford about the decline of democracy around the world. Fun stuff! I would have liked to get a photo but I didn’t want to be rude.

Once I was able to recover from the shock of seeing Hillary (that took some time) we were able to check out some of sites.

I was especially excited to see the Harry Potter related sites, since I am a huge fan. However, photography is not allowed in the Bodelian library.

This type of door is found every where in the buildings at Oxford. Rather Lord of the Rings, don’t you think?

One thing that perplexes me about England is the lack of fruits and vegetables on the menu. Several times I have explained a salad to servers like this: “…you know, the kind with lettuce? It’s green.” The way to get fruit at a restaurant in England: chocolate fondue.

Not surprisingly, I am running out of jeans in my suitcase that still fit!

Goodbye Oxford! On the train to York.
